2025 ID.4

Up to 468 km range*

Fun fact: a Volkswagen ID.4 driver set a Guinness World Record for the fewest charging stops crossing Canada--over 7,000 km with just 18 stops.

Your average daily commute

Most Canadians drive less than 42 km per day--about a tenth of the ID.4's potential range*. That often means charging about once a week, depending on driving habits and weather.

Coast-to-coast coverage

Planning an extended journey? No problem. There are approximately 20,000 charging ports at around 9,000 public charging stations across Canada, about 4,000 of which are DC Fast chargers that can take an EV battery from 10% to 80% in roughly 30 minutes**.

With apps like FLO and Electrify Canada, you can find stations, start charging, pay, and get notifications--all from your phone.

All on a single charge*

Your EV can take you surprisingly far before plugging in again. Here are Alberta drives that fit comfortably within a single charge in ideal conditions.

Edmonton → Jasper

~365 km

Head west along the Yellowhead to the Rockies.

Edmonton → Calgary

~300 km

Straight shot down QEII (AB-2) for a city-to-city hop.

Edmonton → Banff

~415 km

Take AB-2 to the Trans-Canada and roll into the park.

Golden rules for charging

Along with good driving habits, these two practices help you get the most from your battery.

1) Know your charging target

For daily usage, Volkswagen recommends setting the charging target at 80%. Before long trips, set it to 100% for maximum range--then drive off soon after charging completes.

2) Keep it between 30% and 80% when parked

If your vehicle will be unused for longer than 12 hours, leave it parked with a charge between 30% and 80% (for example, at the airport during a trip).

Breakthrough braking

Regenerative Braking converts braking friction into energy that goes back into your battery. It can help extend your range--turning every traffic jam or red light into a small win.

Tip Why it helps
Moderate speeds & smooth inputs Reduces drag and energy spikes from hard acceleration.
Use cruise control when safe Helps maintain steady speed for efficiency.
Precondition the battery in winter Improves charging speed and cold-weather range.

It's smooth sailing from here

Now that you know the range capabilities of an EV and the strength of the charging network, you're ready to hit the road with confidence. Unless your daily commute takes you to another province and back, you likely won't even think about plugging in before you get home.

*Estimated combined range determined using Natural Resources Canada's approved test methods, with a fully charged battery and ideal driving conditions is 468 km for the 2024 ID.4 Pro RWD. Refer to vehicles.nrcan.gc.ca for details. Different vehicle configurations will have different ranges. Actual driving range will vary based on driving and charging habits, weather and temperature, terrain, use of HVAC and accessories, battery age and vehicle condition.

**Estimated charging times are for reference only. Charging times vary by ambient temperature, charger type, battery condition and initial state of charge, vehicle condition and other factors. Frequent and consecutive fast charging can permanently decrease battery capacity.
